F1 Manager 22

In 2019, Frontier acquired rights to develop a Formula 1 management game, set for development in 2020 and release in 2022. Despite being a management game, it required artwork similar to a racing game, featuring real-world racetracks. With no prior experience in racing games and a small, inexperienced team, Frontier aimed to outsource most of the artwork. Recognizing the client’s limitations, Lakshya deployed games artists from its UK and US studios, along with a full-time Art Director, to bolster the client’s capacity and oversee production.

Lakshya was selected as the lead studio for its ability to provide not just capacity but also game development expertise. Frontier sought to leverage additional value beyond 3D asset creation. Lakshya appointed a full-time Art Director and a team of Senior Environment Artists to the project, tasked with scoping, reference gathering, spec creation, integration into the client’s engine, and conducting asset-level reviews at all phases.
